Fat Tuesday

I don’t want to go to work. I start my new job in less than 2 hours. I have to leave for work in approx 45 minutes. I don’t wanna.

I’m still feeling a little under the weather. Last night, my symptoms see-sawed between unstoppable my-head-is-going-to-explode coughing and my-nose-is-a-waterfall-but-it’s-somehow-clogged-can’t-stop sneezing. Resulting in the worst sleep ever. I went to sleep clutching my vicks vapour inhaler. It wasn’t fun waking up at 6:45 a.m. either. But anyway…

So what’s Fat Tuesday? It’s the day before Ash Wednesday. Which is the first day of Lent. I always used to give up chocolate for Lent, but it’s gotten too easy… so I think that this year I will give up fast food as well as my usual. This is going to be difficult considering my love of KFC, and Pizza Hut super supreme pan pizzas. I might as well give up pop (you may know it as a soft drink, but since I’m Canadian I’m calling it pop) too. Not to say I won’t have home made roasted chicken with the skin on, or home made pizzas but it’s easier to eat healthier if you cut fast food out of your diet. Don’t you agree?

Why give up something for Lent? It’s supposed to be symbolic of the 40 days and 40 nights that Jesus Christ spent fasting in the desert to give him strength to sacrifice his life for all of mankind. But I do it because it’s a good opportunity to discipline yourself and I need a lot of it!

Speaking of all this religious stuff, have you seen a documentary called Zeitgeist? It is truly fascinating. Of course, like the book ‘The Da Vinci Code’ if you’re a very religious person, then you shouldn’t watch it. On the other hand, if you’re able to think for yourself and have absolute confidence in your beliefs then it’ll be a very interesting watch, I promise.  It’s just well done is all.

Anyway, I better get back to getting ready for work. Yech.

  1. Well, I am a day late to wish you happy Mardi Gras, so I will wish you a happy first day of lent. Hope it all goes well!

  2. Wow, that’s a lot of things to give up. Kudos! I’m giving up pop myself, though I wouldn’t have gone wrong to give up the fast food as well.
