(*swoon*) I love sexy singing voices…. Rob Thomas, John Rzeznik, John Mayer, Dave Matthews, Gerald Eaton… and many more but those are the ones that come to mind right now. And I think that’s why I’ve loved pretty much every song that The Philosopher Kings have done.
The album starts out with their single, “Castles in the Sand” which if you’ve heard it on the radio is a simple song but combines what PK fans love of PK sound but with an air of fresh & new. Like most PK songs, majority of the songs on Castles are love/relationship songs which is probably why I love them so much. In terms of any movement through the album, it doesn’t exist in the way it does in Madonna’s “Confessions of a Dancefloor” so it’s pretty easy to put the CD on random/shuffle and just let it run. I don’t know if I can listen to the entire album over and over again like I can John Mayer’s and there are definitely some I have skipped over through each listening. But over all I love that they’ve kept the same sound that I know them for, and have still been able to add something new.
There is definitely one song on the album that has become my new favourite though: “Somebody to Love Me” as he sings me through how I’m feeling right now. He used to be a player and now he’s getting lonely,1 kind of idea you know? Love it!
I think I’m going to have to go with a four out of five stars.
Now I wonder where Jewel is… 😉
