Synopsis: Set in New York City, a case of mistaken identity lands Slevin (Josh Hartnett) into the middle of a war being plotted by two of city’s most rival crime bosses; The Rabbi (Ben Kingsley) and The Boss (Morgan Freeman). Slevin is also under constant surveillance by the relentless Detective Brikowski (Stanley Tucci) as well as the infamous assassin Goodkat (Bruce Willis) and finds himself having to hatch his own ingenious plot to get them… before they get him.
Lucky Number Slevin was cute, clever, and definitely entertaining. Cinematography reminded me a little of Sin City minus film noir type colour scheme. I have to admit that I was a little confused for most of the movie but not so confused that I couldn’t follow the movie…
Lucy Liu was very different from her Ally McBeal days… but still had the very ‘cutesy’ feel to her character. Josh Hartnett is brilliant at playing both the serious and goofy character… then again we knew that from Black Hawk down.
I can’t really tell you too much about the movie because any little bit I reveal of the plot will give away something key in the movie. My suggestion would just be to go see it! Paul McGuigan also directed Wicker Park, which is another favourite (dark) movie of mine, and I know him for leaving you hanging till the very last minute… which he does quite well in this movie as well. I give it a 5/5 😀
